Kindergarten through Grade 5
The Brooks Elementary School is the site of a Medford Early Educaiton Program preschool. This is a program for student who qualify for early intervention services, and includes seats for paying regular-education students.
As a Massachusetts public school, the Brooks School follows the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. More information is available at http://www.doe.mass.edu/frameworks/current.html.
A Typical Day
Students are assigned to a classroom teacher (“homeroom teacher”) who is responsible for reading, math, social studies and science instruction. Instructional blocks are divided into 45 minute periods, with 30 minutes for lunch and 20 minutes for recess. Throughout the week students also attend 6 “specialist classes.” These include art, music, physical education, technology, and Italian.
Parent Involvement, Volunteer Opportunities
The Brooks School welcomes the involvement of the community. Parents volunteer in the library, in science classes, as tutors and in the classroom after completing a CORI background check.
Can I Have a Tour?
Tours for registered incoming Kindergarten families are given in May, once students are assigned to a school. School assignment is based on the family’s residence.
