Graphic Communications Technology
The term Graphic Communications Technology is used as an umbrella covering a variety of occupations within the printing and publishing industry. The modern graphic arts industry is on the cutting edge of innovation in digital imaging, data management, computer technology, and telecommunications. The industry now encompasses areas such as design, electronic publishing, pre-press, and finishing. Through a competency-based curriculum Medford Vocational Technical High School offers it’s students training in the latest high-tech equipment, enabling them to follow the job from the formative design stage through the finished copy. Most graduates pursue careers as skilled craft persons in the printing and publishing industry. Printing is America’s third largest manufacturing industry – employing over 1.2 million people in almost 46,000 establishments, and selling over $160 billion of products.
Graphic Communications is a Chapter 74 approved program.
Upon graduation, students are employed in graphic design and desktop publishing, photography, electronic prepress and digital imaging, internet technologies, pressroom operations and management, binding and finishing, layout person, proofreader, typesetter, past-up person, film processor, stripper, platemaker, plate processor, digital printer and scanner, full copy center operator, and as salespeople in the graphics supply industry.
