The Medford School Committee has created a survey that provides the opportunity for citizens, parents, faculty and staff to have electronic input into the Superintendent Search Process. Surveys are provided in (4) different languages. They can be accessed below via the following links.

“We encourage people to fill out the survey during the month of February, so that the Search Committee has the benefit of the input as we review potential candidates for the position of Superintendent of Schools,” said Mayor Burke.

Search Committee

Mayor Stephanie M. Burke announced the members of the Superintendent Search Committee.

“We had over 70 applicants and it was my goal to produce a diverse committee made up of teachers, parents, administrators and community leaders,” said Mayor Burke.

The Mayor will serve as Chairperson of the Search Committee. Veteran School Committee Member Paulette Van der Kloot will serve as the Vice Chairperson. The other School Committee representative will be Paul Ruseau.

Additional members include the following parents: Joanne Bell (Brooks Elementary, Andrews Middle School and Medford High School), Jenny Graham (Brooks Elementary School), Alexis Rodriguez (Roberts Elementary School), and Jane Wright (McGlynn Elementary School, McGlynn Middle School, and Medford Vocational Technical High School). Melanie McLaughlin (Brooks Elementary and Medford High School), will serve as both a parent as well as the SEPAC representative.

Teachers who will serve include: Douglass Bowen-Flynn (Medford High School), Sarah Grant (Andrews Middle School), and Joseph Plati (Columbus Elementary School). The Administrator will be McGlynn Middle School Assistant Principal Jody Liu.

The student representative will be Medford High School student Justin Tseng. Also serving on the Committee will be the City’s Diversity Director Neil Osborne.

Should the need arise, Mayor Burke has also chosen the following alternates: Parent-Doug Nagengast (Roberts Elementary School), School Committee Member Kathy Kreatz, Teacher Larry Brown, (Medford Vocational Technical High School) and Administrator Bernadette Riccardelli.

The search process will be coordinated in conjunction with the Massachusetts Association of School Committees.

Schedule

Mayor Burke has implemented the following schedule in anticipation of being able to publicly interview candidates by the week of March 27th.

The Superintendent Search Committee Schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, February 7 will be the first meeting of the Superintendent Search Committee, where the committee will meet with Glenn Koocher from the Massachusetts Association of School Committees, (MASC). He will provide the Committee with an orientation session to acclimate the group to the search process.

Focus group meetings will be held on February 14th (internal) and February 15th (parents/guardians, community members) at 7 PM at Medford High School.

Potential interview questions from the Search Committee will be due to the Mayor by February 25th.

Interested candidates for the position of School Superintendent must file their applications with the Search Committee by February 28th.

MASC will assist by going through all the applications and presenting them to the Search Committee by March 1st.

The Committee will meet on March 6th to select who they would like to interview and finalize the questions they will ask each of the candidates.

Preliminary interviews of candidates will be conducted from March 10th– March 20th in executive session. The expectation is to recommend finalists to the full School Committee, who will then conduct public interviews, by March 21st.

Interviews will likely begin around March 27th.

“We have set forth an ambitious agenda with the goal of selecting a new superintendent by early April. The selection process will remain public and transparent. By working together we will be able to select a Superintendent who will continue to move the Medford Public Schools forward”, said Mayor Burke.

Bus Schedule 2017-18- Updated Jan. 18th

Thursday, January 18th, 2018

There will be no bus stop changes until further notice as of the 9-18-17 update to provide a routine schedule and consistent route for all.

School Year 2017-18 Bus Routes
As of January 18, 2018

Starting times are indicated for the first stop of each bus route. Plan on roughly 5 minutes between every stop on the route.

School Year 2017-2018 Transportation Routes

  1. Please be 10 minutes early to your morning pickup location. Buses tend to run a little behind the first days of school and will settle into a timely routine in 2-3 weeks.
  2. Afternoon runs tend to run behind as well the first 2-3 weeks.
  3. Be respectful of the personal property that abuts the bus stop.

  7. Bus riders in grades kindergarten through second grade will be provided (at school) a bus tag that must remain on their backpack for the duration of the school year.
  8. Please see your school’s handbook for bus riding rules.
  9. Only student bus riders may board the bus. Parents/guardians/designated others must wait curbside.
